Superficial Vein Thrombophlebitis
Superficial Vein Thrombophlebitis usually affects superficial veins of UE, and is more commonly associated with trauma, such as a central line placement. It appears as local, raised, red, hard, warm, tender cord along course of involved vein.
Symptoms that may mimic DVT
- Superficial redness
- Warmth
- Pain
How Symptoms differ from DVT
The red, raised cordlike appearance will be much more localized than the diffuse redness associated with a symptomatic DVT.
